WMM Flashcards
What are the 4 things that the WMM consists of
Central executive
Phonological loop
Visuo-spatial sketchpad
Episodic buffer
Describe the central executive
An “attentional process”, its role is to allocate tasks to the 3 slave systems
Phonological loop
Consists of the primary accoustic store and the articulatory process (words you hear)
Visuo-spatial sketchpad
Combines visual and spatial information
It is divided into the inner scribe (handles spatial relationships) and visual cache (information about form and colour)
Episodic buffer
Intergrates all types of data processed by the other stores, a link for sending STM to LTM
Evaluate WMM
+ Shallice and Warrington study of KF: KF had bad recall of auditory info but good visual info
T: Credible model
+ Studies of dual-task performance: Participants struggled when performing a tasks that used both visual or auditory processing. Central executive has limited capacity (predicted by WMM), slave systems are in competition with each other.
T: Credible model
- Central executive not definied: The term “process” is too vague, lack of comprehensive explaination
T: Limited understanding
