Q

Describe the central executive

A

An “attentional process”, its role is to allocate tasks to the 3 slave systems

Q

Visuo-spatial sketchpad

A

Combines visual and spatial information
It is divided into the inner scribe (handles spatial relationships) and visual cache (information about form and colour)

A

Intergrates all types of data processed by the other stores, a link for sending STM to LTM

Q

Evaluate WMM

A

+ Shallice and Warrington study of KF: KF had bad recall of auditory info but good visual info
T: Credible model

+ Studies of dual-task performance: Participants struggled when performing a tasks that used both visual or auditory processing. Central executive has limited capacity (predicted by WMM), slave systems are in competition with each other.
T: Credible model

  • Central executive not definied: The term “process” is too vague, lack of comprehensive explaination
    T: Limited understanding
