Wk9-23-Oticon Ponto Flashcards
Which type of BC device is the Oticon Ponto?
Similar to the BAHA
- pericutaneous transmission
Why did Cochlear sue Oticon?
For creating a universal abutment that would fit either the Ponto or BAHA
What are the 3 levels of power for the Ponto?
Ponto 3 - up to 45 dB loss
Ponto 3 Power - up to 55 dB loss
Ponto 3 SuperPower - up to 65 dB loss (comes in only 1 piece, unlike BAHA)
Which smartphones does Ponto 3 have an app for?
iPhone and Android
- can also be connected with other devices, but only through an intermediary neck loop
Ponto 4 only comes in what power level? What kind of connectivity does it have?
Up to 45 dB los
- 2.4 GHz wireless using Oticon ON app
What type of “geometry” does Oticon use for its implant and why?
Otogrip geometry
- more surface contact
- improved stability and reliability
The OptiFit shape of the Ponto abutments fits naturally to the circular incision made by MIPS (minimally invasive ponto surgery). What does this allow?
No pockets or pathways surrounding the abutment
- MIPS is suture-free, under 10 minutes, and local anesthesia
- minimized post-op complications
- tailor-made instruments for the surgeon (only remove the soft tissue absolutely necessary)
Why does Oticon allow for some abutments to be angled?
For cosmetic correction and reduction of feedback
- *Screw is green to allow for easy identification of Ponto
- universal interface and always backwards compatible
How long post-op do patients need to wait for osseointegration of the Ponto abutment?
2-4 weeks
How could we get feedback with bone anchored devices?
4 ways:
- Structure borne mechanical FB - transducer vibrations are mechanically transmitted through the housing to the mic
- Acoustic FB: caused by sound radiated from the skull bone and from HA housing is acoustically transmitted back to mic
- Electrical FB: voltage fluctuations in the output amplifier are electrically transmitted to the preamplifier or the mic w/in the electric circuit
- Magnetic FB: magnetic leakage from the transducer are magnetically transmitted to the mic or telecoil
T/F: Ponto has apparently the widest bandwidth in the industry
True (according to their website)
