WK2: TR Elbow Components Flashcards
1
Q
Flexible Hinges ****
Elbow Components
A
- aligned with elbow exis
- connect harness to socket
- allow forearm pronation and supination
- used with figure of 8 harness and elbow cuff
2
Q
Advantages/Indications
Single Axis Hinge
A
- protect elbow joint from torque forces (short RL)
- creates longer lever arm for short RL
- support heavy duty axial loading
- prevent hyperextension (mech stop @ 180)
3
Q
Disadvantages
Single Axis Hinge
A
eliminates forearm pronation and supination
4
Q
Polycentric Hinges
A
- dual axis
- short residual limb
- prevent cubital bunching
- socket trimlines are left higher
5
Q
Step Up Hinges
A
- Very short residual limb
- Usually for bilateral involvment
- Forearm will flex twice as much as residual limb (split socket required)
6
Q
Residual Limb Activated Locking Hinges
A
- very short RL
- limited strength
- split socket design
- residual limb locks/unlocks joints
- cable setup will be same as TH Px
