Q

why we use standardised tests

A

covariance is relative to the unit of measurement (unstandardised measure of relationship) so we use a correlation coefficient to standardise it.

Q

sun of squares

A

measures how far individual measurements are from the mean
subtract each measurement from the mean , square the difference and then add all the resulting measurements.

also measure the amount of variability in the data
