A
Collection of pus caused by bacterial infection:
- Periapical: dental pulp
- Periodontal: supporting structure of teeth

A
- Pain
- Unpleasant taste
- Fever
- Facial swelling
- Inc mobility in tooth

What is the treatment for abscess?
A
- Draining, tooth extraction, root canal
- Amox 500mg TDS 5 days OR
- Metro 400mg TDS 5 days

What is pericoronitis?
A
Inflammation caused by infection of gum tissues around partially erupted tooth

What is the treatment for pericoronitis?
A
- Amox 500mg TDS for 3 days
- Chlorhexidine mouthwash

A
- Problems swallowing
- Pyrexia
- Swollen glands
- White pus filled spots
- Bad breath

A
Strep A

- Fever last 24 hrs
- Purulence
- Attend rapidly under 3 days
- Inflamed tonsils
- No cough

When would you offer abx for the feverPAIN score?
A
- 0-1: no abx
- 2-3: 3 day backup abx
- > 4: immediate abx if severe, 48 hr short back up

A
Phenoxymethylpenicillin 500mg QDS 5-10 days

- Dentures
- Antibiotics
- Corticosteroids
- Diabetes
