Wk 2 - The Central Nervous System Flashcards
What cavity of the body is the CNS found in?
The dorsal cavity
What protects the CNS
Bone. The cranial cavity and vertebral cavity
What is the function of grey matter?
Integrates information
What is the function of white matter?
Carry information between sites of grey matter in CNS
What is grey matter consisted of?
Cell bodies, unmyelinated axons, dendrites and synapses
What is the purpose of cervical enlargements
There is lots of sensory information from upper limbs coming in and a lot of motor information coming out at that location. Therefore more room for more cell bodies
What structure can you use to determine Ant and Post in the spinal cord
The anterior median fissure AND/OR posterior median sulcus
What is the hole called in the middle of the spinal cord
The central canal
What is the fluid found in the CNS
Cerebral spinal fluid
What is the beam for the posterior section of grey matter in the spinal cord
The dorsal horn
Is the dorsal horn concerned with sensory or motor functions
Sensory
What is the anterior part of the grey matter in the spinal cord called?
Central horn
What is the name of the outermost meninge layer
Dura mater
What is the meninge layer just deep to the dura mater
Arachnoid mater
What is the meninge layer just deep to the arachnoid mater
Pia mater
