The Hip Joint Flashcards
What are the functions of the hip joint?
- Movement of lower extremity
- Movement of pelvis when lower extremity is on the ground
- Standing
- Locomotion
Transmission of forces up and down
What type of joint is it?
Ball and socket diarthrosis
Where is the location where there is no articulate cartilage?
Fovea
What surrounds the acetabulum?
Acetabular labrum (fibrocartilage)
Why is the hip more stable than the shoulder?
Femur head fits better
Acetabulum is deeper
What is the function of the labrum?
Make acetabulum deeper
Allows for negative intro articulate pressure
What ligament bridges the acetabular fossa?
Transverse acetabular liagment
What is the function of the transverse acetabular ligament?
Prevent inferior dislocation
What ligament goes from the AIIS to the intertranteric line?
Iliofemoral ligament
What is the function of the iliofemoral ligament?
Reinforces the anterior capsule
What ligament goes from the superior pubic ramus and blends with the iliofemoral ligament?
Pubofemoral ligament
What is the function of the pubofemoral ligament?
Reinforces the inferior capsule
Limits abduction
What ligament goes from the Posterior acetabulum to the intertrochanteric line?
Ischiofemoral ligament
What is the purpose of the ischiofemoral ligament?
Reinforces the posterior ligament
What ligament is enclosed in synovial membrane that doesn’t contribute to stability? What does it do then?
Ligamentum teres. Contains the fovea artery
