Q

MDF(Main Distribution Frame)

A

main wiring closet for a network. holds the majority of the network gear, including routers, switches, wiring, servers…
This is the wiring closet where outside lines run into the network.(has the primary patch panel.)

Q

Smart jack

A

this is pretty much a Network Interface Device (NID)
-Loopback
-Signal amplification
-Surge protection
-Remote alarms
A smart jack is a type of network interface device that adds circuitry. This circuitry adds such features as converting between framing formats on digital circuit (for example, a T1), supporting remote diagnostics, and regenerating a digital signal

Q

CSU/DSU(Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit )

A

A (CSU/DSU) acts as a translator between the LAN data format and the WAN data formats
CSU/DSU changes the signal from one digital format to another.
A CSU/DSU has physical connections for the LAN equipment, normally via a serial interface, and another connection for a WAN
