  4. Time - You must control your time.

Q

What are the three mental processes that dictate performance?

A
  1. Conscious (C) – what you remember, think about, etc.
  2. Subconscious (SC) – skill base, which due to training comes out automatically.
  3. Self-Image (SI) – habits and attitudes that make you who you are. Comprises your upper and lower limits (scores, abilities, etc.) of what you believe that you can do. (i.e. I can shoot 525/600 almost anytime I want, and I’m happy when I shoot 535.) This range is your comfort zone and the trick is to move that zone upwards.

Q

What is a good alternative to saying “I did a bad job” or “that was a bad shot”?

A

A better phrase is “that shot needs work” or “next time I’ll do/be (improvement opportunity” to focus on solutions and not shortcomings (these both impact your self-image)

As a manager, what is a good alternative to “this is what you did wrong”?

A

Instead, say “here’s what you need to do” to help them picture the solution (not the problem.)
