What are the advantages of wind energy?
A
• Clean energy source that is sustainable.
• Cuts cost of energy as it reduces our need to import energy sources.
• Creates employment in rural areas both in construction and maintenance of the wind
farms.

What are the disadvantages of Wind energy?
A
• Wind is unreliable from day to day.
• Wind farms are very expensive to build.
• Noise and visual pollution can impact local residents and lead to planning objections.
• Wind farms can be hazardous for local wildlife (e.g. birds).
Building wind farms in cut-away bogs and increased human activity can lead to mass movement. For example, the building of a wind farm contributed to the bog burst that occurred in Derrybrien, Co. Galway, in 2003
