Q

What’s Ship Money?

A

Ship Money was a tax to improve the navy in times of war. It was usually paid only by countries on the coast and only when there was a war going on. However, the way that Charles collected it was wrong because in 1635 and 1636, he demanded Ship Money from all countries even though there was no war.
