What is an Anglican?
Belonged to the Church of England. They were protestants.
What is a puritan?
They were Anglicans who wanted plain churches and no bishops.
What is a Laudian?
They were Anglicans that wanted bishops and colourful churches.
What is a Catholic
Followed the teachings of the Catholic Church.
What is a Jesuit?
They were Catholic monk priests. They tried to make more people Catholic.
What is a Dissenter?
they were protestants that left the Church of England. There were lots of groups.
What is a Presbyterian?
They were dissenters who did not have bishops. They ran the Church of Scotland.
Name James’ successes.
Ordered a new translation of the Bible. Imported all “goods”. Wrote about the dangers of tobacco. Successful in Scotland because he managed to control the chiefs.
Name James’ failures
Sent politicians home for 10 years. Chose bad ministers. Raised taxes. Puritans thought he would make the Church better but he kept bishops and Catholics thought he would be lenient but he was raised by puritans.
What is the Divine Right of Kings?
‘The Divine Right of Kings’ means that one has been divinely appointed the position of king or queen. God chooses them to rule the country and they believe they can do as they wish because God has chosen them.
Who were the Stuarts?
They were the rulers of Scotland.
Who was the leader of the gun powder plot?
Thomas Percy.
What happened to the plotters of the Gunpowder Plot?
Many were hung, drawn and quartered.
What is an interpretation?
They are views of History (an event or person) when the author has had time to interpret the event.

Did Charles I change what the people wanted?
Charles changed 4 out of 5 of their demands.
Why did many people like Charles II?
He enjoyed what the people did so he put an end to what the Puritans had banned. Charles II fit the description of the king everyone wanted.
What happened to Cromwell’s body when Charles II became king?
It was dug out of his grave, beheaded and then his head was hung on London Bridge.
