What was the Triangular Trade?
Ships left London, Bristol and Liverpool for Africa, loaded with many goods they could trade for slaves such as brewed beer and textiles. On the African coast the goods from Britain were swapped for spaces, who were shipped across the Atlantic. The slaves were sold in the West Indies and the Southern states of the USA for different types of goods

What are the key features of life on a plantation?
- During harvest time, they worked 18+ hours
- They were treated badly, especially when they tried to escape
- In the plantation owner’s house, to could be a cleaner, a cook or a servant
- They wake up really early and work long hours
- Other jobs included planting, looking after trash gangs, water-carriers, cleaning, nursing etc.
What were some artefacts from the Slave Trade?
- Sugar Bowl - Made by Josiah Wedgewood. It had a picture of Alan kneeling near a palm tree
- Slave Ship Blueprints - The prints showed the slave ships and how many Africans were crammed into the space
- A Penny - It shows a kneeling African male shackled by the wrists and ankles bearing the caption: “ Am I not a man and a brother?”
- A Poster - It is a poster that was to convince and persuade people to understand how horrible slavery was

What?
When slavery was jammed by the British Parliament
When/Where?
In 1807, the space trade was abolished by the British Parliament. But owning a slave was only made illegal in Britain in 1833
Who?
There were many people who helped ban slavery, the most famous being William Wilberforce who helped found the Society for the Abolition of Slavery
