What did the anti-war movement believe?
The war was morally wrong
The war was corrupting young soldiers with violence and drugs
The South Vietnamese were corrupt and the north were fighting for freedom
What did veterans do?
They shared stories about the brutality of the war and the pointless suffering
What else did veterans do to show their support to end the war?
They gave in medals they had received for fighting in the war
Why was it hard for supporters of the war to dismiss the veterans?
Because the veterans had been their and experienced the war
Why did black people protest?
They often felt they were being drafted to the war while white people managed to avoid it
What else at the time was going on?
The civil rights movement was happening due to segregation so that encouraged black people to protest
Why was the draft unfair?
Many middle-class white people avoided being drafted due to brides to the doctor or college
What was the Vietnam War called?
The ‘first televised war’
What did the media do?
They photographed and filmed the horrors of the war creating everyone to be able to see them
How did this not help the government?
As they weren’t able to justify the war as the people had seen what was happening
What did President Johnson do in 1965?
Increased the number of men to be conscripted

1954-1968
