Whitings Info Processing Model Flashcards
1
Q
What 5 things does his info processing model consist of?
A
- Input data from display
- Receptor systems
- Central mechanisms (perceptual, translatory, effector)
- Muscular systems
- Feedback data
2
Q
Describe the perceptual mechanism
A
- Interpreting stage
- A judgement is made regarding the incoming information received by the sense organs
- Perception involves the DCR process (detection/comparison/recognition)
- Selective attention occurs
3
Q
Describe the translatory mechanism
A
- Decision making stage
- Using information from the perceptual mechanism, a decision is made on what action should be taken, with the help of previous experiences stored in the memory
- The correct response is selected in the form of a motor programme and put into action
4
Q
Describe the effector mechanism
A
- Transfer stage
- Once the motor programme/plan of action is selected, this decision is put into action by sending impulses to the relevant working muscles to carry out the movement
