Decision Making - Baddeley and Hitch Model Flashcards
1
Q
What 5 things does their working memory model consist of?
A
- Central executive
- Phonological loop
- Episodic buffer
- Visiospatial sketchpad
- Long term storage memory
2
Q
Describe the central executive
A
- Overall control of the decision
- Sends and recieves information from 3 sub systems to make an effective decision
3
Q
Describe the phonological loop
A
- Deals with sound information
- Recognises auditory information such as the call of a teammate
4
Q
Describe the episodic buffer
A
- Sequence and pattern information
- Co-ordinates the phonological loop and visuospatial sketchpad into sequences and patterns that can be sent to long term memory
5
Q
What is visuospatial sketchpad?
A
- Deals with visual information
- Contains visual and spatial information such as the flight of the ball or a gap in the defence
6
Q
Describe the long term storage memory
A
Stored information which can be added to and retrieved from to support each sub system - varies based on experience
7
Q
How can decision making be improved during the episodic buffer?
A
Chunking - storing information in larger units
Chaining - linking together pieces of information
