Schmits Schema Theory Flashcards
1
Q
What is a schema?
A
A generalised motor programme that allows the performer to adapt their skills and transfer experiences of one skill to another
2
Q
What is Schmits Schema Theory?
A
A method of performing a skill by adapting/modifying information learnt from a general motor programme
3
Q
What 2 parts can the schema theory be split into?
A
Recall - Initial response and response specification
Recognition - sensory consequences and response outcome
4
Q
Describe recall schema and the 2 parts
A
- Prior to performance, movements are initiated/planned
1. Initial conditions - Knowledge of initial/environment conditions
- Where am I/hear/feel what’s happening
- Where are teammates?
2. Response specification - Knowledge of response specifications/response/movement demands
- What is expected/required/what should I do?
- Which pass would be best?
5
Q
Describe recognition schema and the two stages
A
- Following movement or during action/movement
3. Sensory consequences - feedback information concerning knowledge of performance
- kinesthesis/intrinsic feedback/how it felt
4. Response outcome - comparison of actual and intended outcome
- knowledge of results/what happened
6
Q
How can schemas be developed?
A
- Ensure practice is variable to build a range of experience
- Ensure that practice skills are transferable from training to the game situation
- Give feedback continuously to help improve skills/give praise and positive reinforcement
