First years of Weinmar republic are vastly unstable politically. Sees a number of threats from extreme left & right. Right was generally more dangerous in revolutionary attempts, they could be put down by left due to Ebert-Groener agrrement 1918. Way there was no one to stop left made them most serious threat.

Q

How Right Was Biggest Threat

A

Strongly opposed reduction of army forced by ToV.

Kapp - Luttwite Putsch: March 1920. Army refused to do as republic asked and put Fraikorps down. “Reichsweir does not fire upon reichsweir”. Government fled. Government begged people to strike. They did, stopping coup.

The lack of governments power to prevent right highlights how they are biggest threat. Generally better at battle (trained) and committed many murders: Erzburger 1921. Had secret organisations such as consul.

In the Munich putcsh was un-organised but easily put down by the army

Q

Conclude

A

Both left and right were significant threats and raged a tug of war style of constant battling opposition to the government.

Left less of a threat as people feared them and were easy to stop.

Right much more of a threat as no firm way to stop them from revolting.
