What is wheezing?
A
Loud EXPIRATORY sound
Often audible to patient
esp in asthma

What can wheezing be mistaken for and how is it distinguished?
A
Mistaken for Stridor
- Stridor is an INSPIRATORY sound
- Best heard in the upper airway
- Deserves IMMEDIATE medical attention because of risk of airway compromise/closure
- Do your ABCs

Asthma

Foreign body aspiration (e.g. peanut)

A
Vocal cord dysfunction (upper airway dysfunction)
