What is a wheeze on auscultation of the chest?

A

The symptomatic manifestation of any disease process that causes airway obstruction

What are some examples of conditions that may cause a wheeze?

A

Resp - RTI (croup, laryngitis, bronchiolitis), obstructive airway disease (Asthma, COPD), airway compression from malignancy, pneumonia
Cardiac - pulmonary edema (CHF)
Neurological -
Other - anaphylaxis, vocal cord dysfunction, goiter causing airway compressions, foreign body inhalation, GERD, obstructive sleep apnoea,
