The importance of manufacturing
industry to Hong Kong's economy
had declined gradually. In 2014, it
accounted for 1.3% of the GDP.
At the early stage of relocation,
most of the factories were moved
to Shenzhen and Dongguan in
the Zhujiang Delta Region (ZDR)
of Guangdong. Later, they were
dispersed to other cities in the region such as Guangzhou and Foshan.
Many manufacturers have in fact only relocated their routine production process to the mainland. Their headquarters still stayed in Hong Kong which were responsible for
product design, marketing and management of the company. Operation like this is known as "front shop-back factory' model
