What are members of a jury?
They are randomly selected citizens determine the outcome in many trials. This role is seen as a very important citizenship duty.
What are magistrates?
Ordinary citizens can volunteer to serve as Magistrates (Justices of the Peace). Magistrates determine most minor criminal cases in magistrate courts.
What are meant by rules?
Regulations or statements that govern behaviour within a specific area of activity. For example, a school has rules not laws and the rules of football don’t apply to football, they don’t apply to everyone.
What is meant by laws?
The system of formulated ideas of how members, groups and bodies within a society should behave and be regulated. Each society will have its own means of determining its laws, which are recognised as regulating the actions of its citizens and other sin the country and which if not obeyed can lead to the imposition of penalties.
What is meant by fairness?
Impartial and just treatment for all people; behaviour without any form of favouritism or discrimination.
What is meant by justice?
Behaviour or treatment that is morally right and fair.
What is meant by discrimination?
Treating a person or group of people unfairly on the basis of their sex, sexual orientation, gender, race, age etc.
