What happened in June 2014?
In June 2014 the Government announced that schools would be required to promote British values from September that year.
What values were asked to be promoted in a school?
Democracy
The Rule of Law
Individual Liberty
Mutual Respect for and tolerances of different Race and Beliefs and for those without faith
What are British Values?
The values that are associated with living in modern day Britain
What is meant by Multiculturalism?
A society that consists of people from a cultural or religious background.
What is meant by Principal?
A basic truth or idea that underpins a system of beliefs associated with a given society
What is meant by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
An international law setting out a set of universal human rights under the AUSPICES the united nations.
What is the human rights act?
This was passed in 1998 and came into force in 2000. this act brought together numerous human rights legislation and gave UK citizens easier access to the European court of human rights.
What is rule of Law?
A basic principal of a democratic society that the law applies equally to all people.
What are freedoms?
Freedoms are a right to speak or act however one wants.
What does equality mean?
Equality means treating all individuals equally.
What is meant by morals?
Morals are rules that govern which actions are believed to be right and believed to be wrong.
What are rights?
Rights are legal binding social and ethical entitlements that are considered the building blocks of a society
What is meant by duties and responsibilities?
Duties are not optional and often are enshrined in law. Responsibilities are placed on citizens by society. These two terms often inter changeable but the term duty often implies a legal/slash moral underpinning.
