What is science? Flashcards
The approach of science that relies of verifiable observations.
The discovery approach
What is the hypothesis-driven science?
Science that used the scientific method to test possible explanations of observations.
A possible explanation of an observation.
Hypothesis
The step of the scientific method following the hypothesis.
A prediction.
How is a hypothesis tested?
A hypothesis is tested with a controlled experiment.
A variable in an experiment that is be manipulated or tested.
The independent variable.
A variable that remains constant throughout the experiment.
A controlled variable
A variable that is observed during an experiment.
A dependent variable.
An broad explanation for observation that is supported by abundant evidence from many experiments.
A theory
What characteristics do a plant, fungus, animal, and protist have in common?
They all have a nucleus.
What do the levels of an organelle, an atom, and a molecule have in common?
They are not considered alive.
The Scientific method
-observation. -question based on observation -forming hypotheses -prediction -experiment -collect and analyze data. -draw conclusions. -new hypotheses or predictions
What is science?
Information- natural world and connections Process- gathering information, looking for patterns, propose explanation
