Power is the ability to influence others and power relations is the power groups have over others.

A legislation was passed which protected children from work and promoted schooling. They played when they had free time.

Fitness was offered to English private boy’s School and taught good virtues.
Why weren’t females allowed to participate in sport in the late 19th century?
It was believed that women could not reproduce well if they played sports.
How did P.E. become more frequented in Canada?
Egerton Ryerson studied the European education and advocated for boys in Canada to learn sports. This was to help them prepare for militaristic threat.
Why did they realize that sport should not be used for militaristic drills?
Sport was seen as something that should be enjoyed and not taught just to use in war. It helped with child development, learning anatomy and much more useful things.
How was Dr. Arthur Lamb instrumental in fighting for sport to not be used for military purposes
Dr. Arthur Lamb was a director of PE at McGill and he would fight with the Trust System any chance he would get.

1943, federal gov. promoted teacher training in phys ed in university.

1) Increasing knowledge and specializing of scholars that study movement.
2) Legitimizing studying human movement worthy of higher education.
3) Shift the emphasis from the federal government
