What is the old definition of globalisation?
Economic, cultural, political connections through trade, colonisation and co-operation.
What is the modern definition of globalisation?
Connections between people and environments across the globe which are lengthening and deepening.
What is a trans-national company?
Corporation or enterprise that manages production establishments or delivers services in at least 2 countries.
What does lengthening connections mean?
New links are growing between places that are further distances apart.
What does deepening connections mean?
More and more people’s lives now connect with far away places and it no longer just the rich who are living ‘globally’
What is globalisation the flow of?
Money, goods, ideas, people, music, videos.
What two things have increased/improved as a result of globalisation?
Interdependence & Interconnectedness
What are the types of globalisation?
Economic, cultural, political, demographic, environmental
What are some examples of each type of globalisation?
Economic - growth of TNCs, FDI, world trade
Cultural - global news, fast food
Political - G8 domination, people aspiring to consumerist societies
Demographic - BR, DR changes affected natural increase, internal migration and economic migrants affecting urban population and international migration.
Environmental - global solutions needed to deal with global environmental threats
