What is Finance? Flashcards

Q

Why do you like investing?

A

I liked reading the news and Wall Street things were always a large part of it. I didn’t really do anything about it until like 2016 - OPEC was doing some big decision on Thanksgiving, so while everyone was eating and such, I was looking at updates from the meeting. What they did was like the first production cuts in 8 years - really confused some people - sent oil prices so high.
So I put like $50 into an inverse equity ETF crude oil and it went up all of 2017.

inverse equity ETF

Since then, I’ve thought it was fun to see people’s reactions to things like on Reddit or in the news. Real life events influence the flow of money.

Q

PE ratio

A

Price to Earnings Ratio
The P/E ratio can be calculated as: Market Value per Share / Earnings per Share
It shows how much investors are willing to pay per dollar of earnings
If a company were currently trading at a multiple (P/E) of 20, the interpretation is that an investor is willing to pay $20 for $1 of current earnings.

A low P/E can indicate either that a company may currently be undervalued.

Q

Why IB

A

Have done a lot of exploring
think Vanguard EXPLORE program, move slowly. I would like to move quickly and learn quickly for a bit. I did a WIEP trip and all the tech leaders came from IB. It’s the skills and smart people they are surrounded with that proves their competence to others and themselves that they can become a leader of the new world??? Safra Catz, Leslie Kilgore who was one of the first people at Netflix, Amazon, and now is on the board. The head of staff at AirBnb. They have shown me the importance of the pathway and if I decide to stay or leave after working in IB its definitely the right way to go or where I can learn and develop the fastest.
