What is the role of the Pitcher in softball?
Positioned at the pitcher’s plate in the center of the diamond. Puts the ball into play by throwing it toward the batter.
What is the role of the Catcher in softball?
Catches the pitcher’s throw on a missed hit by a batter. Positioned at the back of home plate. Prevents runners from stealing bases.
What is the role of the First Baseman in softball?
Positioned on the right side of the diamond. A defensive player who handles plays near first base.
What is the role of the Second Baseman in softball?
Positioned next to first base. Responsible for plays near second base.
What is the role of the Third Baseman in softball?
Takes care of hits that travel to third base. Stands near third base and handles plays in that vicinity.
What is the role of the Infielder/Shortstop in softball?
Positioned between second and third base. Responsible for balls traveling between those bases.
What is the role of the Outfielders in softball?
Responsible for batted balls that go over the extended area of the diamond. Their job is to catch or field balls and immediately throw them to the baseman to prevent runners from advancing.
