Ego-Supportive & Ego-Modifying
Briefly describe the emphasis and outcomes of EGO-SUPPORTIVE treatment styles
Typically short-term, strengths-based approach that aims to build upon skills and restore/maintain/or slightly enhance functioning levels.
Briefly describe the emphasis and outcomes of EGO-MODIFYING treatment styles
Typically long-term, much more psychodynamic approach that views problems stemming from an internal deficit (EX: character flaw, psychic conflict, poorly developed ego) and aims to positively change the person! Intense process. Not everyone is a good candidate.
