Radical view - Marx influence
London authorities needed to control growing working class in post industrial world. Lower classes were seen as dangerous and posed threats to upper class. Lead to ongoing historical tensions between working class and police
What is the relationship between youth and police
Young people seen as problem when in public domain. Alder et al (1992) found that 80% of youth stopped by police while walking or hang out w friends. Police influenced by views of wider society and government.
At election politicians focus on law and order leading to increase of youth contact w police.
What are the move on powers
Providing to police by the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act (2000)
Can ask young people to move on from a public space if there is reasonable suspicion that a young persons actions is disruptive.
What are the circumstances that allow move on powers
Causing anxiety to a reasonable person
Interfering with trade or business if owner complains

Behaviour is generally disorderly or disruptive

Rationalise polices that police have w investigating and enforcing
