week nine Flashcards
Leading Lines
the viewer of your photos attention is drawn to lines that lead to the main subject of the image. A leading line paves an easy path for the eye to follow through different elements of a photo.
Symmetry
two halves of an image hold the same weight. This is also known as formal balance, or symmetrical balance.
Rule of Thirds
a type of composition in which an image is divided evenly into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, and the subject of the image is placed at the intersection of those dividing lines, or along one of the lines itself.
Framing
using elements of a scene to create a frame within your frame. For example, you might shoot through a doorway, pulled back curtains, branches, fences, tunnels, or arches to highlight your subject.
pattern
integrating a repetition of elements into your photographs. Our daily lives are filled with repetitive patterns. Whether with shapes, colors or textures, perfect examples of repetition exist all around us.
Interrupted Pattern
integrating a repetition of elements into your photographs and intentionally interrupting the pattern so the viewer focuses on the subject used to cause the interruption.
