What is the goal in step 1 (Information gathering and sharing)?

A

Obtain information about all ICF aspects prior to step 2
- Medical chart
- Obtain information s PWA as a person
- Inform PWA + Family about aphaisa, stroke and services
- Assess communicative function (could be part of step 3)

- Impairments
- Activities
- Participation
- Environment

What is involved in step 2 (collaborative goal setting)?

A
  • Done early in the therapeutic process and at strategic points on therapy
  • Always changing
  • Collaborative = what’s important to PWA + Family and SLT gives expertise (contribute equally)
  • In early stages, may have to rely on family more than PWA (fatigue, overwhelmed)

What are the component to goals?

A
  • Two components to goals = end state + effort to reach that state
    E.g., To talk better on the phone with my daughter who lives in Auckland through SLT intervention and home practise
  • S.M.A.R.T.E.R goals = Shared, Monitored, Accessible (PWA friendly format…), Relevant, Transparent, Evolving, Relationship-centred

A

Long term goal:
- Work part time as a secretary

Short term goal:
- Answer questions appropriately in a mock interview for secretarial position

Session objective:
- Communicate at least 5 personal strengths without prompting from clinician in response to interview question about strengths
