Week Eight OIA lower extremity Flashcards
Origin of Gluteus maximus
Coccyx, edge of sacrum, posterior iliac crest, sacrotuberous and sacroiliac ligaments
Insertion of gluteus maximus
IT band (upper fibers) and gluteal tuberosity (lower fibers)
Action of gluteus maximus
ALL: extend, abduct and laterally rotate the hip.
Lower: adduct hip
Everything except flexion and medially rotation
Origin of gluteus Medius
The gluteal surface of the ilium, between posterior and anterior gluteal lines, is just below the iliac crest.
P-A
Middle of front and back
Insertion of gluteus Medius
The lateral aspect of greater trochanter
Med = L
Action of gluteus Medius
ALL: abduct, flex, medially rotate hip
POST: extend and laterally rotate hip
Expect adduction
Origin of Gluteus Minimus
The gluteal surface of the ilium between the anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Part of AI
I’s in minimus = I in inferior
Insertion of gluteus Minimus
The anterior aspect of greater trochanter
Min = anterior
Action of gluteus minimus
Abduct, medially rotate, flexion of the hip
Origin of psoas Major
Bodies and transverse process of lumbar vertebra
Insertion of psoas major
Lesser trochanter
all the major S’s = Lesser
Action of psoas major
Flexion, laterally rotate the hip.
Flex the trunk, ant tilt of the pelvis. Assist to laterally flex the lumbar spine.
Origin of Psoas Minor
Body and transverse process of first lumbar vertebra
Insertion of psoas Minor
Superior ramus of pubis
SRP
Action of psoas Minor
assist in creating lumbar lordosis, post lilt of the pelvis
