Week 9 - Science Flashcards
Falsification
The requirement that a scientific hypothesis could fail some tests.
Hypothesis
An explanation for a series of observations; is usually embedded in a background theory or set of assumptions.
Paradigm
A subset of a Worldview that is used to support a particular theory, or field of knowledge, particularly in Science.
Pseudoscience
Non-scientific reasoning that masquerades as science in order to make its claims seem more reliable or justified than they are in fact.
Theory
A comprehensive account of some aspect of nature, supported by a large body of converging evidence, based on repeated observations and testing, usually integrating and generalising hypotheses, and making consistently accurate predictions across a broad area of scientific inquiry.
Verification
The requirement that a scientific hypothesis passes all its tests.
