Gender
multidimensional social construct that is culturally based and historically specific
Sex
a multidimensional biological construct that encompasses anatomy, physiology, genes, and hormones, which together affect how we are labelled and treated in the world
Determinants of Health
Refers to the social, economic and physical factors that influence an individuals or group’s health. There are 12 determinants of health.

Inequities
A term used instead of inequality. Equitable treatment or conditions require recognizing differences and addressing them in ways that are socially just

formal and informal organizations of women that addressed issues ranging from birth control to poverty. encompassed a variety of groups and activities, collectively known as the women’s health movement.
Disabilities
Social Model = understands that disabilities are physical and mental limitations as primarily the result of social conditions
Medical model = limitations of the body
Public Care
Refers to health care provided by health care professionals in a public setting such as a doctors office or hospital.

Society is gendered and sexed such that women and men have different access to power, opportunities and decision making. These differences are socially constructed.
