What is the 1st degree burn patho
Epidermis only effected
Red skin (sunburn)
Light to moderate Pain
What is the 2nd degree burn patho
Damage to the epidermis and dermis
Skin is red and blistered with moisture present (may leave scar after healing)
Very painful
Damage to sweat glands and hair follicles
Caused mostly by hot liquids or steam
What is the 3rd degree burn patho
All skin layers damaged
Skin is white or brown and leathery (skin slip often present)
Past pain sensation on 3rd degree site
What is the 4th degree burn patho
Destroys effected skin, and damages bone,tissue and tendons
Often will result in death depending on environmental factors and % of burn
What are the 6 types of burns
- Thermal burns (exposure to heat source)
- Electrical burn (electricity passing through body)
- Chemical burn (chemicals in combat with pt ex. Acids or alkalis)
- Radiation burns (exposure to to much radiation in radiation therapy or nuclear accidents)
- Friction burns ( abrasion due to road rash or treadmill injuries)
- Cold burns (prolonged exposure to cold)
What shock to burn victims go into
Hypovolemic and distributed shock
- Increased blood viscosity due to increased RBC and plasma
-reduced cardiac output
- increased HR
What percentages of burns for each body part
Face- 9%
Neck to waist - 18%
Back - 18%
Each arm - 9%
Genitalia - 1%
Each leg - 18%
