WEEK 7 - Topic 17 - Problems of Refraction Flashcards
What is myopia?
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a condition where the person is able to see close objects without problem but distant objects appear blurry.
This is caused when the focal point is in front of the retina, rather than on it.
What type of lens corrects myopia?
Concave lens
Myopia is typically a result from?
Eyeballs being too long
What is hyperopia?
Hyeropia, or farsightedness, is a condition where the person is able to see distant objects perfectly well but close objects appear blurry.
This is caused when the focal point is behind the retina, rather than on it.
Hyperopia is typically a result from?
Eyeballs being too short
What is presbyopia?
Presbyopia is farsightedness that occurs in many people over the age of 50, where the person is able to see distant objects well but close objects appear blurry.
This is caused by the gradual loss of accommodation with age due to the lens’s decreasing elasticity.
Another term for normal eye?
Emmetropic eye
What is emmetropia?
Emmetropia is the normal refractive condition of the eye, in which light rays are accurately focused on the retina.
