People put in less effort when they’re in a group setting or when their individual contribution to the goal isn’t apparent
Social Compensation
Individuals increase their effort on a collective task to compensate for the anticipated poor performance of other group members
Group Think
The practice of thinking and making decisions as a group, resulting typically in unchallenged and poor quality decision making
Power
The capacity to affect the outcomes of oneself, others, and the environment

Power attributed to other because of their perceived capacity to give rewards
Coercive Power
Power arising from the perceived capacity to exercise force or give punishment

Power to influence through the source’s affiliation with a group to which the person identified strongly
Expert Power
The ability to influence others because of one’s experience or knowledge in an area

The process through which leaders exert influence among members of a group

Authoritarian Leadership
When the individual has total decision-making power and absolute control over their subordinates. Makes decisions with little to no input from team members
Democratic Leadership
When all team members participate in the decision-making process. Everyone is given the opportunity to participate ideas are exchanged freely, and discussion is encouraged.
Laissez-Faire Leadership
Allow team members to have the autonomy to make their own decisions and manage their own tasks. Provide resources and information when asked.
