Deontology
Very ‘black and white’: rules are rules and there are things we must never do
Teleogoly
Rules on particular actions can be established by looking at specific consequences (good produced vs interests of participants)
To ensure participant confidentiality:
- Restrict access to information that allows identifying respondents
- Reveal actual names/job positions, etc. only with clear written consent
- Do not disclose actual data sets with personal details
Deception
Not informing stakeholders about key attributes of the study
Speculation
Making claims that your data does not support
Neglect
Failing to acknowledge limitations of your study
HARKing
Hypothesizing (theorizing) after the results are known
P-hacking
Messaging/torturing the data until p < 0.05
Biased sampling
Selecting desirable cases or groups of respondents
Design deficiencies
Major design flaws, such as not including control groups in experiments
Fabrication
Creating fake data and results
Falsification
Modifying answers, deleting data
Plagiarism
Presenting the work of others as if it is your own
