Week 6 Flashcards
Define Nutrient reference values (NRV)
A set of recommendations for nutritional intake used by a variety of stakeholders to assess the dietary requirements of population groups and individuals
Define Estimated average requirement (EAR)
- Daily nutrient level estimated to meet the requirement of HALF the health individuals in a life stage/ gender group
Define recommended dietary intake (RDI)
- Average daily dietary level sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements of NEARLY ALL health individuals in a life stage and gender group
Define adequate intake (AI)
- Average daily intake based on observed or experimentally - determined approximations or estimates of nutrient intake by a group of apparently healthy people that are assumed to be adequate
Define upper limit (UL)
- Highest level of continuing daily nutrient intake likely to pose no adverse health effects in almost all individuals
Define suggest dietary target (SDT)
- A daily average intake from food and beverages for certain nutrients that may help in prevention of chronic disease
Define acceptable macronutrient distribution range (AMDR)
Estimate of the range of intake for each macronutrient for individuals which would allow for an adequate intake of all the other nutrients whilst maximizing general health outcomes
Define estimated energy requirement for maintenance (EERM)
- Dietary energy intake that is predicted to maintain energy balance in health individuals at current levels of body size and level of physical activity
Define desirable estimated energy requirement (DEER)
Is the dietary energy intake that is predicted to maintain energy in healthy individuals of a defined gender, age, weight, height and level of physical activity consistent with good health and/or development
EERM = DEER if?
BMI >25
