Week 5 (Sampling) Flashcards
Sampling frame
a list of everyone in the population from which you will draw the sample.
2 possible problems in random sampling
1, you dont know the population. non probability sampling is the solution.
2, not everyone in the sample cooperates, sampling related error.
name all the types of probability samplin
simple random sample
systematic sample
stratified random sample
multi-stage cluster sample
name all the non probability samples
convenience sample
snowball sampling
quota sampling
three forms of bias
the use of a non-probability sample
incomplete sample (not chosen from entire population)
non response, you could be excluding an entire group.
steps of a random sample
determine sampling frame, think of the amount of respondents needed, draw a sample with the use of a random selection tool.
what is a stratified random sampling?
a random sample, but different groups of the population are equally represented
multistage cluster sampling
multi layers of random samples
the size of the sample depends on
absolute size
time plus costs
non-response
sort of analysis
heterogeneity of population
what is quota sampling?
stratified sampling, but not random
4 errors in research
sampling errors (errors relating to the impossibleness of a 100% representative sample)
sampling related errors (errors resulting from faults in the sampling process)
data collection error
data processing error
