Week 5 - CO-OP Flashcards
1
Q
Who is CO-OP originally developed for? Who can it be used with?
A
- Originally developed for children with DCD
- Can be used with CP, Aspergers, TBI and stroke clients
2
Q
What are the 7 key features of CO-OP approach?
A
- Client chosen goals
- Dynamic Performance Analysis
- Cognitive strategy use
- Guided discovery
- Enabling principles
- Parents or significant other involvement
- Intervention format
3
Q
What is the global problem solving strategy of CO-OP?
A
Goal-Plan-Do-Check
- Goal: what do you want to achieve
- Plan: how do you want to get there
- Do: have a go
- Check: did the plan work
4
Q
What are the domain specific strategies of CO-OP?
A
To be developed by the child and therapist together
- Verbal guidance - ask how can they do it
- Supplementing task knowledge - providing information to the child about the task
- Body position - relates to shifting of the body, whole or in part, relative to the task
- Attention to the task - relates to attending to the task or appropriate aspects of the task
- Task specification / modification - attending to the specifics of the task or modifying the task to enable performance
- Feeling the movement - focus on the movement required for the completion of the task
- Verbal rote script - guides the child through the doing of the task / motor sequence required for the task
- Verbal mnemonics - assist the child to imagine a visual picture of the part of the task or how it should be done or acronym that helps them to remember
5
Q
What does guided discovery look like?
A
- Focus on asking rather than telling
- Demonstrating rather than doing for the child
- Assisting child to find his / her solution and experimenting with that solution
6
Q
What are the characteristics of occupation-centred intervention?
A
- Client centered occupation
- Collaborative partnership
- Client chosen goals
- Contextually relevant
- Active engagement of child & parent
- Individualised interventions
- Focus on occupational performance & participation
- Information gathering about roles, occupations, performance & environment
- Intervention is occupation-focused, ‘whole’ or ‘finite’
- Occupation-centered evaluation of intervention outcomes
7
Q
What does the Dynamic Performance Analysis (DPA) identify?
A
Helps to identify performance problems and potential strategies to enable performance
8
Q
What questions can be used to guide DPA?
A
- Is the person motivated to develop the skill?
- Does the person have sufficient knowledge about the task?
- How competent is the person in their current performance?
9
Q
What are the enabling principles of CO-OP?
A
- Make it fun
- Promote learning: wide range of strategies, ensure sufficient task knowledge
- Work towards independence: fading support provided
- Promote generalisation & transfer: demonstrate how the strategies and techniques can be used in other situations
