Q

How do socialist feminists use intersectionality?

A

For socialist feminists they look at gender, sexuality, class, and ethnicity/race. The women in the movie discuss how it is difficult to view oneself in a one-dimensional way as various aspects of their identity affect their lives and cannot be separated into different categories

What does Rosemary Brown mean when she says that there is “no choice” for black women?

A

The quest for equal pay/entering the workforce was a white feminist movement but for black women there was no choice for them but to work. This brings in the class issue as it was mostly poor black women who were going to work as well as single parent families who had to work

Q

What is race in terms of sociology?

A

It is an empty word in the sense that there are no individual races. ‘Black’ and ‘white’ have no meaning and are used mostly to denote ‘evil’ and ‘good’. However race still plays a very important role in our society. It is used to define people based on physical characteristics such as skin colour, facial traits, etc. and then from there assumptions are made about people’s intelligence, skills, etc.
