What is feminism?
Feminism is thought to be socialistic, really only for “lesbians” but it’s about equality and fairness of all humans across all gender expressions
What is liberal feminismt?
Liberal feminism is a feminist ideology that began in order to advocate for women to be welcomed in all the spaces that are male dominated, giving them the freedom to rise and fall. It wants freedom to move ahead as well as promoted the idea of a social safety net, leading to the idea of socialism
What are the 3 demands of feminism?
- Equal pay
- Equal education
- Equal legal rights
What is marxist feminism?
It is a kind of feminism that describes the family as being made up of 2 things: the man which equals to the bourgeoisie and women which equals to the proletariat. This is an early feminist look at the family and the social standings of men and women within this structure
What is the “double shift” as Hochschild describes?
- She describes what is called the “double shift”: women taking care of the kids in the morning, then going to work, then taking care of the kids at night
- Women were tasked with raising the next generation of workers as workers themselves without the support of their husbands
What is socialist feminism?
Socialist feminism was created by women who were not white and therefore felt that they were not represented in the white/liberal feminist movement. Women of colour were in the workforce before white women and so what white liberal feminism put forth were the issues of white women who were housewives, excluding women who did not have their lifestyle
What aspects of life does social feminism consider?
It considers gender, class, sexual orientation, etc. all come into consideration when it comes to discrimination. It identifies the different positions of power and how our traits (gender, sexuality, class and race) are not the sole source of oppression as it is more on a spectrum
What is compulsory heterosexuality?
It is the idea that heteros are favoured over homos i.e. there is no gay marriage, no adoption in gay relationships, and no inheritance or pension because they can’t get married
What is radical feminism?
Radical feminism is a more radical version of social and liberal feminism. It describes the dialects of sex and critiques the nuclear family, saying that the oppression of women is at the root of all other oppression in society
What does radical feminism discuss?
It discusses pornography and how they are against it as well as wife/child abuse and rape
