Week 5 Flashcards
amniotes
animals that can lay amniotic eggs
amniotic eggs
-hard shells to try and protect them
-watertight but not airtight
-gas exchange limits how big eggs can be
lines of arrested growth (LAGS)
show the growth and rest cycles of bone development in dinosaurs
Lamellar bone
young and growing bone that is highly vascularized
Haversian bone
secondary formation after Lamellar bone
-this is more dense and strong and is the outside layer of adult bone
-slows growth making a series of very close LAGS called the eternal fundamental system
external fundamental system
closely spaced series of LAGs is Haversian bone
ontogenetic changes
changes in the body as a baby matures
Non-isometric ontogenetics
changes in body that are not just from “getting bigger” and towards adult form
-like crest or horn development
isometric ontogenetic
changes in absolute size but not proportions (just getting bigger)
Medullary bone
a bone formed in females when peeping for eggshell development it is for storage
