week 4 PTTR (manipulation and control) Flashcards
what is a descriptive research strategy?
a strategy that aims to describe a variable/ phenomenon
it does not try and uncover the cause of the phenomenon, or look for correlations between variables
what is an experimental research strategy
a strategy intended to answer cause and effect questions between two variables
what is a quasi experimental research strategy?
an experimental study that contains a flaw that prevents the researcher from obtaining an absoloute cause and effect answer
what is a nonexperimental research strategy?
demonstrates the relationship between two variables but cannot explain the relationship or demonstrate cause and effect
what is the difference between nonexperimental and correlational research?
correlational uses one group of participants and two variables
nonexperimental compares two or more groups of scores, using only one variable (so sort of like the participants are the second variable, e.g gender or age)
what is a research procedure?
an exact, step by step description of a specific research study
