What is TBI ?
Traumatic brain injury
what are the 3 types of TBI
Mild TBI- GCS 13-15 (associated with an immediate, brief loss of consciousness on impact)
Moderate TBI- GCS 9-12 severe concussion (brief seizures & respiratory arrest may occur, transient pallor, bradycardia, hypotension & loss of consciousness)
Severe TBI- GCS ≤ 8 (prognosis is poor)
what is a focal brain injury
Alterations in sensory or motor function
what is a global brain injury
Alterations in sensory and motor functions and by changes in the levels of consciousness
what is a severe brain injury
Brain function is compromised and may result in brain death
what are acquired brain injuries
Any damage to the brain that occurs after birth caused by accident or trauma, stroke, injection, alcohol, or drugs
The leading cause is a stroke
2nd leading cause is from trauma
