LCSH serves what 2 functions?
Make subject headings more specific & precise; help to sub arrange a large # of items under one heading in a catalog.
What are the four types of subdivisions?
Topical, geographical, form & chronological.
Do you have to maintain consistency in SH strings?
Yes, it’s crucial. Esp. in spelling & capitalization. Variations can make topics harder to find, or resources are misfiled.
What’s the structure of the SH strings?
Main heading > subd’s, which are preceded by a dash,
How many subd’s are allowed in a SH string?
As many as you need, but follow the 20% & 6-10 LC rule.

Where or when something is from (ex - U.S.)

What the item is, rather than what it’s about. (Ex. Bibliography, dictionary)
