What are the steps to Subject Analysis?
Examine the work in hand; decide on several KWs that could represent the subject; using KWs as a starting point, look up terms in an authoritative list to identify appropriate headings.
Subject analysis involves determining what about a resource?
It’s “about ness” = themes & topic, and “is-ness” = form & genre.
To determine the subject of a resource, where do you look?
Title, subtitle, forward, preface, intro, publisher, series, table of contents/index, text, cataloguing in publishing

What is conceptual analysis and translation in subject analysis?
Conceptual Analysis involves understanding what a resource is about, and translation is converting these ideas into controlled vocabulary forms.
How many subject terms can you assign to the main topics covered by the resource?
Depends on the main topics covered by the resource, multiple topics may require separate terms or strings of terms for clarification. As a general rule, no more than 6. LCSH says 10.
What is the main goal of subject analysis?
To provide access to materials via a subject.
Related terminology to subject cataloguing?
Vocabulary control, controlled vocabulary, homonyms, thesaurus.
