Week 3 PT Management of Burns Flashcards
how do we treat partial thickness burns
- irrigate and debride, especially blisters and dead skin
- antimicrobial and ointments
- with things like imprgenated gauze, dry gauze then an elastic wrap
what are the two things we want to do for full thickness burns
prepare for a graft and prevent infection
why do we want to do early ROM and splinting
prevent contracture, and limit functional implications.
how do we cover skin grafts
soaked gauze, with irrigation frequently, may splint for protection, and finish with compression.
after you have adherence of the graft and vascularization, how do you treat
ointment, imprgenated gauze, wrap and netting.
for scar management , what do we do with compression
23hours/day at 5-40mmHg
why do we use silicone gels
to soften it and decrease hypertrophic scars
why exercise
function, contracture prevention. we want to stretch to blanching and slow and sustained
overaggressive stretch is linked to
HO
is there a lot of evidence for massage
no it is lacking
what does splinting want to focus on
elongation, to decrease contractors. Not comfort.
